What is a polishing surface treatment?
Polishing surface treatment, also simply polished, is a delicate process designed to refine and enhance the surface properties of a material. This is a critical step in manufacturing and process. It helps improve the visual appeal, functionality and longevity of various products. Polishing involves removing blemishes and irregularities from the surface of a material, resulting in a smoother, more reflective finish. Steps Involved in Polishing Surface Finish
These are the steps involved in the polishing surface finish process:
1.Roughing
This step removes scratches and abrasions caused by metal cutting and welding. It can be applied to the entire surface or to specific component parts. Random orbital sanders, sandpaper, polishers, and angle grinders are some of the tools used in roughing. Random orbital sanders are great for large surfaces and can work on metals like steel and aluminum. The polisher presses across the surface, smoothing out any rough spots and leaving a shiny finish. Angle grinders are great for smoothing out scratches and nicks at awkward angles. The diameter and number of abrasive grains in an abrasive tool determine whether it is best suited for an entire metal part or a small surface.
2.Polishing
After the roughing step is complete, a quick-cut abrasive paste can brush away the affected areas or the entire part surface. Therefore, the polishing surface finishing process uses wool berets and polishing sponges to help spread the abrasive paste. Sponges and berets come in varying degrees of hardness. As a result, we can achieve different polished surface grades for prototypes and custom parts. After the polishing process, a microfiber cloth can help effectively clean the surface.
3.Brighten skin colour
This is also called polishing. It uses specialized equipment with a soft, fine surface to enhance the brightness of polished surfaces such as tableware. An air mop can be used during the light polishing process to ensure consistent surface brightness.
4.Protect
Most metal surfaces deteriorate when exposed to oxygen, water, or high temperatures, causing the surface to rust and lose its luster. The fourth and final step requires applying a protective layer consisting primarily of wax or grease, depending on the component. The ultimate goal of coating it is to extend the working life of the component.
