Effect of surface roughness
- Surface roughness affects the wear resistance of various parts. The rougher the surface, the smaller the effective contact area between the mating surfaces, the greater the pressure, and the faster the wear.
- Surface roughness affects the stability of the matching performance. For clearance fit, the rougher the surface, the easier it is to wear, causing the gap to gradually increase during operation; for interference fit, due to the flattening of the microscopic peaks during assembly, the actual effective interference is reduced, affecting the strength of the connection.
- Surface roughness affects the fatigue strength of various parts. The surface of rough parts has large grooves. These grooves, like sharp corners and cracks, are very sensitive to stress concentration, thus affecting the fatigue strength of the parts.
